SANTO DOMINGO. – The head of the National District Fire Department, José Luis Frómeta Herasme, reported that around 11:00 a.m. this Thursday, the units had managed to control 75% of the fire registered in a warehouse of the Banco de Reservas, located on Yolanda Guzmán Street, in the Mejoramiento Social sector.
The fire, which started after 1:00 a.m. according to witnesses, has required the mobilization of multiple fire units, which have faced difficulties in accessing the main focus due to the intensity of the flames and the nature of the materials stored in the building.
The affected structure functions as a file storage facility for the bank and is located at the intersection of Yolanda Guzmán and Eusebio Manzueta streets, in a high population density area.
Authorities have focused their efforts on containing the fire and preventing its spread to nearby homes and businesses, and so far, no fatalities have been reported.
However, the material damage is presumed to be substantial, given the conditions under which the fire occurred and the initial limitations for its extinguishment.
During the morning, a column of smoke rose from the structure and was visible from the surrounding areas, while emergency teams continued cooling and control efforts.
