SANTO DOMINGO– Banco BHD was recognized at the Financial Alliance for Women (FAW) Annual Summit 2024 as a Champion of Engagement, one of the categories that make up the Champion of the Women's Economy award. The FAW presents this award annually to recognize financial service providers that have made a measurable difference for women and their communities.
Banco BHD is the only Dominican financial institution that is a member of this alliance and the only one to have received an award in this category. The 2024 FAW award winners come from the Americas, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. These are companies that are enabling women's full access to finance and unlocking enormous value in the female economy, according to a press release.
Steven Puig, president of Banco BHD, emphasized that “this recognition from the Financial Alliance for Women reaffirms our position as the leading bank for women in the Dominican Republic. We are grateful to the FAW and its CEO, Inez Murray, for this distinction, which highlights the support we offer women in their various roles and key social challenges through our commitment to women's financial well-being and by actively sharing the best practices of our BHD Women's Gender Strategy.”.
The award was given to BHD for being the most active member in terms of learning spaces for sharing knowledge among peers of the Alliance and for its progress in key areas such as better access to credit for women-led SMEs and support for women by providing them with innovative digital financial services.
“Access to financing is fundamental for the growth and consolidation of small businesses, especially for women-led companies. As part of our commitment, Banco BHD works constantly to support women entrepreneurs,” Puig pointed out.
In 2023, BHD was also recognized by FAW as a Change Maker Champion, and its president, Steven Puig, was awarded Outstanding Contributor for his personal commitment to supporting women's economic empowerment.
