SANTO DOMINGO.- The use of artificial intelligence and information safeguards, constant technological updates and staff training are some of the key elements when it comes to preventing and addressing cybersecurity threats in an increasingly changing global reality.
This is according to the Association of Multiple Banks of the Dominican Republic (ABA), which puts forward some recommendations with the aim of contributing to best practices in the management of information technologies in the financial sector and other productive areas, as part of its permanent guidance platform Yo Navego Seguro (I Navigate Safely).
The ABA expressed its agreement with the World Economic Forum's approach in its recent report on this area, where it stated that "in a complex cyberspace characterized by geopolitical uncertainties, growing cyber inequality and sophisticated cyber threats, leaders must adopt a security-first mindset.".
The report reveals that 66% of organizations expect AI to have the most significant impact on cybersecurity in the coming year, but only 37% report having processes in place to assess the security of AI tools before implementation, the ABA noted.
In light of this, the organization recommends, on its website www.yonavegoseguro.com.do , using the alternatives offered by AI to enhance the security of companies, which would allow for reduced incident response times, earlier and more accurate detection of cyber threats, automation of responses to certain known cyber threats, freeing up security professionals to focus on more proactive tasks, and an improved security posture.
In a press release, he highlighted that ransomware , or data kidnapping, is one of the main cybercrimes and refers to the State of Ransomware 2024 survey by the company Sophos, which reveals that 59% of the organizations covered by the study were attacked with this method in the last year.
The document highlights that, although overall attack rates decreased compared to 2023, the impact on victims worsened, and in light of this, Sophos recommends identifying vulnerabilities, preventing errors in the configuration of security tools, and seeking solutions tailored to their specific needs, especially in the case of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises.
Additionally, the ABA suggests implementing strategies for safeguarding information, taking into account the different options available, including cloud backup services, external backups, backup software, redundancy systems, or combinations of the above alternatives.
The Banking Association indicates that it is important to implement regular technological updates, design strong password policies, and educate employees on best security practices and how to identify potential threats, in order to prevent human error.
