This March, we want to highlight the participation and empowerment of women in the construction sector, and to that end, we extend an invitation to all members and associates of the sector to attend our first panel, Women Who Build, in which we will have the presence of important female figures in the sector and highlight their work in recent decades.
SANTO DOMINGO– There are still a couple of business days left in March to continue paying tribute to women, although every day is a good day to recognize them. ACOPROVI, the Association of Housing Builders, is preparing to close out Women's Month with an interesting event where a group of women connected to the construction industry will showcase their knowledge of concrete blocks, rebar, cement, and economics.
“Women Who Build” is scheduled to take place at the Intercontinental Hotel on Winston Churchill Avenue from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. It will be led by a group of successful women who will share their experiences and insights in the sector.

Architect Yermys Peña, a specialist in the design of smart and sustainable cities and a frequent contributor to the newspaper El Inmobiliario, is among the speakers. She holds a master's degree in Architectural Design and Sustainable Design and is Co-CEO of Construger, as well as founder and CEO of Studio YP. In 2020, she was selected by Forbes Central America for the Powerful Women Forum, focusing on women driving change, and by Mercado Magazine as one of the 50 most powerful and successful women in the Dominican Republic.
Economist and lawyer Rosanna Ruiz, a specialist in economic and financial legislation, pensions, the stock market, e-commerce, trusts, and competitiveness, will participate in the event. She is currently the executive president of the Dominican Republic's Association of Multiple Banks (ABA). She has received specialized training in the economic and financial field from institutions such as the World Bank, INCAE, CEMLA, ALIDE, CEMYB, the Mexican Banking Commission, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, and Citibank, among others. This training has led her to actively participate in projects such as the design and implementation of the Dominican Republic Financial Reform Program: Financial System and Sectoral Diagnosis with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
Engineer Annerys Meléndez will also be among the speakers sharing her expertise on the first panel dedicated to women in construction. She is a shareholder and VP of Promotion and Construction at Melcón Construcciones and Second Vice President of ACOPROVI. With nearly 20 years of experience in the construction sector, she has led her company in the development of hundreds of housing units in the city center, as well as the construction of significant institutional and tourism projects throughout the country.
Vivian Reyes Roca, Vice Minister of Standards, Regulations, and Procedures at the Ministry of Housing and Buildings (MIVED), has joined the team of construction companies. A graduate in architecture with studies and specializations in construction administration and project management, she is a co-founder of Urbedom and has 20 years of experience in the sector, with over 181,157.30 m² of construction, design, and planned projects. From 2015 to 2021, she was a member of the board of directors of ACOPROVI, where she served as vice president of finance.
Also participating in the panel is the Vice Minister of Social Development of the Ministry of the Presidency, Jaime González. He is a Civil Engineer with a Master's degree in Cadastre and Real Estate Appraisal, a Postgraduate degree in Construction Management, and the founder and president since 1990 of several companies dedicated to the design, construction, supervision, and management of construction projects, as well as the rental of heavy equipment for earthmoving and real estate.
