The project encompasses the section of Avenida España up to the Navy base and involves widening the sidewalk to 6.5 meters, including a two-lane bike path along the entire waterfront, 4.3 kilometers long, plus 237,000 square meters of natural parkland. It also includes 10 parking areas with a capacity for 452 vehicles.
SANTO DOMINGO- President Luis Abinader and Tourism Minister David Collado broke ground yesterday, Monday, for the reconstruction of the Malecón in Santo Domingo East with an investment of nearly 500 million pesos.
The project encompasses the section of Avenida España up to the Navy base and involves widening the sidewalk to 6.5 meters, including a two-lane bike path along the entire 4.3-kilometer coastline, plus 237,000 square meters of natural parkland. It also includes 10 parking areas with a capacity for 452 vehicles.
A concrete photo stop will be built, along with pedestrian paths, the regeneration of existing green areas, lighting, and the construction of drains, speed bumps, and curbs.
Collado highlighted the importance of the project and the impact it will have on the entire community, especially among small business owners and micro-entrepreneurs in the area.

It is worth remembering that last year, during the announcement of the project, Collado explained that the intervention on the seawall would begin the recovery of the entire coastline of the country, whose population he lamented has always lived with its back to the sea.
The event was attended by the main provincial and municipal authorities, including the governor, Julia Drullard, and the mayor, Manuel Jiménez.
