SANTO DOMINGO – Hospitality can be defined as the virtue or quality of welcoming strangers or visitors. It can also be described as treating others with kindness. These positive characteristics are something that hosts who share their spaces through Airbnb master, as they practice them day after day. Hosts are the ones who make the welcomes for guests and travelers warm and ensure that everyone they receive feels right at home.
The range of options and opportunities offered by hosts can be measured in many ways, but on this platform, the most reliable is through ratings and reviews; that is, guests are the ones who evaluate what makes a great host: whether a space is spotless, whether the host responds quickly to their needs, whether the check-in process is smooth and simple, whether the location of the space is suitable, and also the value for what they are paying.
With these capabilities in mind, Airbnb set out to identify both the most welcoming destinations in 2024 and the hosts in the Dominican Republic and who also have the highest ratings—above 4.5 stars in all evaluation categories. Below, we show you what that hospitality looks like from a data perspective.
In the Dominican Republic, these are the three most hospitable destinations:
Southern Region: This region of the country has experienced a remarkable boost thanks to young hosts under 30, with a 40% growth in the last year, representing more than 15% of all hosts. Barahona stands out not only for its hospitality but also for its natural and cultural richness. With pristine beaches, breathtaking landscapes, and an authentic local identity, this area is establishing itself as one of the tourist gems of the Dominican South.
Cibao Region: Its hospitality is rooted in the elderly, who represent about 20% of its community. The region includes destinations such as San Francisco de Macorís, Salcedo, Tenares and other towns with a wide natural, agricultural and cultural wealth.
The Northern Region saw a nearly 45% increase in hosts compared to last year. In fact, in El Valle, 35% of those sharing their spaces through Airbnb are women. This destination is a must for all nature and animal lovers. The unmissable Los Haitises National Park can be visited almost year-round and is also ideal for hiking.
