Tropical Storm Melissa forces work to be suspended until late Thursday afternoon: find out who will be working

SANTO DOMINGO – In anticipation of Tropical Storm Melissa through Dominican territory, the Ministry of Labor issued Resolution No. 10-2025, ordering the suspension of work from 1:00 pm on Wednesday, October 22, until the end of Thursday, October 23, 2025. The measure aims to protect the population in the areas most affected by the storm.

The suspension applies to the National District and the provinces of Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, Peravia, San José de Ocoa, Azua, San Juan, Barahona, and Pedernales. It will also extend to any other area declared under red alert by the Emergency Operations Center (COE).

However, there are exceptions. Businesses providing essential services, such as supermarkets, grocery stores, clinics, pharmacies, gas stations, telecommunications companies, electricity distribution companies, private security companies, and those that operate continuously, will be allowed to operate with minimal staff.

The Ministry clarified that this suspension does not affect workers' salaries or acquired rights. Companies that remain closed during the specified period must guarantee that their employees do not suffer any economic or employment-related harm.

The resolution is based on the Labor Code, the Risk Management Law, and the provisions of the National Council for Prevention, Mitigation, and Response, headed by the President of the Republic. Its main objective is to reduce risks and protect lives from potential natural disasters.

The measure takes effect upon publication on the Ministry of Labor's official website. Authorities urge employers and workers to stay informed and comply with the provisions to ensure collective safety.
