The new infrastructure is designed to accommodate ships carrying up to 7,000 passengers, including those of the Icon class, considered the largest in the world.
SANTO DOMINGO – The Royal Caribbean Group has begun construction of the new Terminal G at PortMiami, a project valued at $345 million, according to information published on the port's official website. The project will expand the port's capacity to receive megaships and is scheduled to begin operations at the end of 2027.
According to data available on PortMiami's institutional platform, the financing is being carried out through a public-private partnership: Miami-Dade County is contributing 46% of the investment, approximately $159 million, while Royal Caribbean is covering the remaining 54%. The County Commission approved the initiative in July 2025.
The groundbreaking ceremony brought together Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, county commissioners, and industry executives. “This world-class facility will enhance the Miami-Dade skyline and mark another milestone in the evolution of PortMiami. Our modern terminals are transforming the way we do business and transport people,” the mayor stated, according to information released by port authorities.
Terminal G will be a single-pier building with its own parking and the capacity to accommodate state-of-the-art vessels, including Icon-class ships like the Icon of the Seas. These details were confirmed by Royal Caribbean in technical information published on its corporate website, which also indicates that the design incorporates sustainability and energy efficiency criteria.
Royal Caribbean Group President and CEO Jason Liberty stated that the project responds to growing market demand. “Cruise Terminal G represents a significant investment in Miami’s future. Built with advanced technology and sustainable design, it will allow for a more streamlined and efficient experience for passengers,” the executive said, according to a company statement.
In addition to Royal Caribbean International ships, the terminal will also serve the Celebrity Cruises and Silversea Cruises brands, all belonging to the group. According to data published on its corporate website, the Miami-based company operates a fleet of 69 ships across five global brands.
