Tourism begins reconstruction of the bullring in El Seibo with an investment of more than RD$300 million

SANTO DOMINGO.- David Collado, Minister of Tourism, yesterday gave the "definitive" opening for the reconstruction of the bullring or multipurpose arena in the province of El Seibo, with a projected investment of 300,780,963.23 million pesos.

This is a new complementary project for tourism that will have a capacity for 2,500 people, where concerts and all kinds of activities can be held that will boost the economy of the province.

Collado said that he has taken charge of the province of El Seibo in matters of tourism, especially in the municipality of Miches, where "nobody thought that it was going to be taken as a futuristic term to the International Tourism Fair (Fitur).".

"We took the municipality of Miches to Fitur full of pride and satisfaction, and this year we will present Miches again at Fitur so that the progress can be seen and the reality of an unprecedented public-private effort can be seen," the Minister stated.

"The Ministry of Tourism is committed to bringing the first concert with an artist when the Bullring is inaugurated," he stated.

He explained that the culture of bullfighting in El Seibo is part of the essence of the country and that is why they support this cultural event, so that it can be celebrated in a big way.

The authorities

The municipal authorities of the province of El Seibo expressed their gratitude to the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, and to Collado for making the dream of all the people of El Seibo a reality by rebuilding the plaza, as is the case of Mayor Leo Francis Zorrilla, who said that this work will do something significant for the province.

"Today is a historic day, as work begins on this important plaza, because El Seibo not only holds bullfights for the people of El Seibo, but for the entire East, the country and the Caribbean," Zorrilla emphasized.

He explained that the style of bullfighting in El Seibo is unique because the animal is not sacrificed, so the project will contribute to the economic growth of the town.

Senator Santiago Zorrilla also stated that El Seibo had dreamed of having a bullring, and that dream has now become a reality.

"I remember that with former President Danilo Medina, the dream of the people of Seibo to build the bullring began to be fulfilled. He entrusted Omar Benítez, then Minister of Agriculture, to start the project, but it could not be continued. Today, President Abinader has entrusted Minister Collado with making this project a reality," he said.

He said that this project will also be used to host all kinds of events from anywhere in the country.

The square

The building will have a capacity of 2,500 people, parking for buses and cars, and a 2,567-square-meter children's area. It will include six sales booths, stables for the bulls during the events, dressing rooms, a ticket office, gift shops, and a waiting room.

It is recalled that in 2019, the then President Danilo Medina, the Minister of Agriculture, Osmar Benítez, and authorities of this province broke ground on the land where the Seiban bullring and cultural center will be built, at a cost exceeding 87 million pesos, but the work was halted on several occasions due to disagreements among authorities and a lack of budget.
