What is celebrated on Dominican Constitution Day and why?
Constitution Day is commemorated every November 6th in honor of the proclamation of the first Magna Carta of the Dominican Republic, which took place in 1844 in the city of San Cristóbal, months after the country achieved its independence on February 27th of that same year.
This document established the legal and political foundations of the Dominican State, defining its institutional organization, the rights and duties of citizens, and the powers of public authorities.
For this reason, the date constitutes one of the main national holidays, as it commemorates the birth of the constitutional order that governs the organization of the nation.
