Samaná inaugurates a road to connect more than just destinations

SANTO DOMINGO.- With the expansion of its main access road to four lanes, Samaná is beginning to redefine how it connects with the rest of the country, in a move that aims at both the dynamism of tourism and the daily life of those who live there.

President Luis Abinader led the inauguration of the project on Tuesday, March 31, an intervention that directly impacts more than 110,000 people and transforms one of the busiest points in the province.

According to a statement from the Presidency of the Dominican Republic, the project is part of a broader road modernization strategy aimed at strengthening tourist centers and improving territorial connectivity.

A route that connects more than just destinations

The information states that the expansion, which now has four lanes (two in each direction), includes structural improvements ranging from asphalt rehabilitation to drainage systems, lighting, sidewalks, urban access and connections to tourist areas.

According to the statement, the intervention redefines access to the province, facilitating the transit of visitors, improving local traffic and reducing congestion points that for years marked this demarcation located in the northeast of the Dominican Republic.

Tourism as a central focus

The project is part of a series of initiatives aimed at establishing Samaná as one of the country's most dynamic tourist destinations. These include the development of the tourist port, slated to open soon, and other public-private partnerships.

According to information released by the Presidency, this vision favors a model where infrastructure not only facilitates access, but also organizes growth: clearer routes, less environmental pressure and greater capacity to receive visitors.

Intervening also involves transforming

According to the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), the project's execution was not limited to technical aspects. It also involved the relocation of dozens of homes and adjustments to essential services, such as replacing water system pipes, which increased the complexity of the work.

These processes were carried out through agreements with the families involved, in parallel with the structural interventions, explained the statement issued by the Ministry.

What still needs to be resolved

The Minister of Public Works, Eduardo Estrella, indicated that the Government plans to intervene in other critical points of the province, such as the Punta Balandra area, where a definitive solution is planned to guarantee transit to communities such as La Galera.
