SANTO DOMINGO –Samaná Bay, located in the province of the same name on the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic, has been included in Condé Nast Traveler magazine's list of recommendations for the upcoming spring break. The selection was published under the title "27 Spring Break Destinations for Adults That Might Surprise You," a guide that brings together places from different regions of the world for those seeking off-the-beaten-path experiences.
The specialized publication explains that the months of March and April correspond to the mid-season in many tourist destinations, allowing travel with mild weather, fewer visitors and a more balanced experience, without having to wait for summer to vacation.
A “hidden gem” in the Caribbean
In its review, the magazine describes Samaná Bay as a “hidden gem” located along the Dominican Republic’s northeast coast. It highlights the peninsula’s crystal-clear waters, considered ideal for activities such as snorkeling and diving, elements that enhance its appeal for nature tourism.
The article also highlights a seasonal phenomenon that distinguishes the destination: between January and March, the ocean becomes a temporary habitat for humpback whales, with an estimated 1,500 to 2,000 whales visiting the bay to mate, give birth, and care for their young.
Whale watching and guided experiences
The magazine invites travelers to visit the destination before the end of the whale watching season to participate in specialized expeditions led by conservationist Kim Beddall, through the Whale Samaná organization.
Alternatively, he recommends observing the cetaceans from the Punta Balandra observatory, located approximately nine miles northeast of Santa Bárbara de Samaná, a spot that allows you to appreciate the natural spectacle from land.
Condé Nast Traveler's list also includes beach destinations, national parks with wildflowers, and mountain towns where the ski season extends, creating a diverse selection for the adult traveler.
Recommended accommodation on the peninsula
Among the accommodation options, the magazine suggests The Peninsula House hotel, which has received the Reader's Choice Award . The hotel is located on six hectares of lush vegetation on the Samaná Peninsula and offers rooms decorated in earth tones, with Brazilian hardwood floors, antiques—such as Chinese bamboo chests—and mahogany bathtubs.
The recommendation also includes enjoying a drink on the terrace or heading to the Beach Restaurant for a seafood lunch. The restaurant is located a few kilometers from the hotel and offers free transportation for guests.
The inclusion of Samaná Bay in this international list reinforces its visibility within global travel guides and positions it among the suggested destinations for those planning getaways during the spring season.
