They are launching a competition for a local artisan to design the statuette for the award winners.
SANTO DOMINGO.-With the aim of recognizing and highlighting the work of suppliers, collaborators, allies and national or international partners of the company who actively work in the fight against climate change, the Piñero Group, through its “We Are Ecoists” movement, will celebrate the first edition of the “The Most Ecoists Dominican Republic” awards.
A press release highlights that the initiative, which has the support of the Ministry of Culture, will be delivered for the first time in the Dominican Republic, a country where the aforementioned business consortium has been operating for almost three decades and where it has 13 hotels, which contribute 14,000 rooms to the national hotel supply.
This award, explains the press release, has been held in Spain for two consecutive years, within the framework of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) 2023 and 2024, and aims to distinguish humane companies aware of making commitments that positively impact people and the planet.
It details that the event will take place on April 25 as part of the DATE 2024 tourism fair program and seeks to promote, through the award, the “We Are Ecoists” movement, a philosophy adopted by the Group that aims to generate a positive impact by promoting “regenerative tourism”.
“These awards are a recognition of our 'We Are Ecoists' movement, through which we have sought to elevate our commitment and channel it to convey our environmental sustainability strategy, while also engaging society to bring out the 'ecoist' within. It is a movement aimed at everyone who, like us, notices and feels that this planet is also theirs,” stated Isabel Piñero, CSO of the Group.
They formalize the alliance
With technical guidance from the Ministry of Culture, through the National Center for Handicrafts (CENADARTE), the "Los + Ecoístas RD" awards are launching a competition for a local artisan to design the award statuette. This initiative seeks to recognize creativity and innovation in local artisan production, according to the press release.
"The 'Most Eco-Friendly' awards aim to highlight the work of artisans as cultivators of identity, guardians of tradition and artisanal techniques, and also seek to encourage them to continue their work by implementing environmentally friendly resources.".
The Minister of Culture, Milagros Germán, expressed that for the institution she leads, it is a source of great satisfaction to be able to establish this alliance with the Piñero Group, as it is a company whose initiatives contribute to showcasing the creativity of the Creole artisan, as well as to valuing handicrafts as one of the most distinctive artistic expressions of Dominican culture.
The winning artisan will receive recognition and a cash prize of RD$150,000 from the Piñero Group, as well as the opportunity to exhibit and sell their work in the shops of the Bahia Principe hotels in the Dominican Republic for one year.
