SANTO DOMINGO.– The Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) yesterday delivered a new pedestrian overpass in Las Terrenas, Samaná, aimed at improving mobility and safety in one of the busiest areas of the municipality.
The project was delivered by the minister, David Collado, as part of the interventions being carried out to strengthen urban conditions in tourist centers of the country, where the constant flow of visitors and vehicles demands safer solutions for pedestrians.
According to information from the Communications Department of MITUR, the new facility was developed with an investment of over RD$14 million, through the Executive Committee for Infrastructure in Tourist Zones (CEIZTUR).
The project includes a 160-meter linear path covered in synthetic wood, on a 45-meter concrete structure, built over an existing ravine, which allows for improved connectivity in the area without affecting its surroundings.
In addition, it includes lighting, wooden railings along 87 meters and the installation of a POLITUR booth, with the aim of reinforcing the safety of those who travel through the area.
During the handover ceremony, Collado emphasized that, "this type of work has a direct impact on the quality of life of the communities, while also contributing to the organization of growing tourist areas.".
This intervention adds to other investments made in the province of Samaná, where, according to official data, the Ministry of Tourism has allocated more than RD$1.8 billion to projects aimed at consolidating its development as a destination.
This project responds to the need to adapt the infrastructure to a constantly growing destination, where mobility, safety and the organization of space are becoming increasingly crucial.
