The director of the Emergency Operations Center, Juan Manuel Méndez, reported on Wednesday afternoon that the number of fatalities following the explosion in San Cristóbal had risen to 27.
SANTO DOMINGO – The Dominican Republic's Association of Multiple Banks (ABA) announced a series of measures that, from the banking sector, seek to support the people and companies affected by the explosion that occurred last Monday in San Cristóbal and that has left a deep shock throughout the country.
In a statement, the ABA reported that, in coordination with multiple banks, a fund has been created for donations to the affected community and to the entities that carry out humanitarian and social resilience work in the area impacted by the disaster.
He also added that financial intermediation entities are currently evaluating some measures to alleviate the burden on bank customers affected by this tragedy, so that they can renegotiate, restructure or request extensions for the payment of their bank commitments, including preferential rates.
For these purposes, the ABA explained, they urge users to stay tuned for further information from their banking institutions.
"As a sector, we share in the pain you are experiencing at this time and express our full willingness to support you in this process," he stated.
The Banking Association reiterated its solidarity with the families of the deceased and missing persons, as well as with those affected who are being treated in different health centers.
