Motherhood as transformation: the journey of Angheisa Bustamante

SANTO DOMINGO– For Angheisa Bustamante, motherhood is the most beautiful and challenging experience she has ever faced. A certified public accountant specializing in finance and currently the director of the finance department at Noriega Group, she is the mother of Juan David, 9, and Juan Manuel, 4.

“For me, being a mother is an adventure of love, doubts, and constant learning,” she expressed. The arrival of her children completely transformed her way of seeing the world and organizing her life, she says, adding that each day represents a new challenge, but also an opportunity to discover herself.

“I can’t deny that there are exhausting days, when I have to juggle all the tasks,” she admits. And yet, she finds in motherhood a fulfillment that no other experience has given her: “Being a mother has been the most complete activity I have ever done.”.

Bustamenta tells El Inmobiliariothat organizing and planning are essential parts of her daily routine, but she has also learned to accept that she can't always do everything. “While I'm working on one task, another inevitably gets left undone. However, I've learned that life is lived one day at a time, and I apply that to raising my children as well,” she confesses. On those days when she feels overwhelmed, she finds refuge in the simplest things: “A smile from them or a warm hug is enough to recharge me and remind me that I also need to take a break and take care of myself.”.

Over the years, Angheisa has discovered that motherhood isn't about perfection, but about humanity. "It means getting up a thousand times even when you're exhausted, learning to ask for help, forgiving yourself for mistakes, and celebrating small achievements as if they were great victories.".

That learning was reinforced by one of the toughest challenges she faced as a mother and a professional. When her eldest son, Juan David, was born, “he didn’t breathe at birth and had to remain hospitalized for several days.” Although his health stabilized, he needed neonatal therapies that demanded time, energy, and, above all, her presence.

“I requested time off three times a week to dedicate myself to his therapy. I only thought about his well-being, even though I knew I risked losing my job.” It was a time of sacrifice: “I dedicated three hours every morning to Juan David, and then I left the office later to fulfill my work responsibilities.” Today, looking back, she feels proud. “Achieving that balance hasn’t been easy, but it has been worth every sacrifice, every sleepless night, and every decision made with love and faith.”.

The Venezuelan woman explains that her faith is an unshakeable pillar, and that she transmits this to her children. “I know that God has lent them to me so that I can be a better woman each day, and to guide them in His word to live with respect, understanding, love, and communication.”.

She maintains that she believes in open conversation as the basis of trust: "I have taught them that we must talk about our experiences to create that trust between mother and child.".

Like many modern women, Angheisa has learned to balance her roles as a mother and a professional. She uses a planner to organize work, personal, and family tasks, but she also values quality time over exact time. “A conversation over dinner, a game before bed, or a long hug before leaving for work—those small gestures create deep connections that no tight schedule can replace.”.

Regarding her parenting style, she states: “I consider myself a modern mother because I have learned to recognize and respect the individuality of my children. I believe in respectful parenting, in teaching by example, setting limits firmly but also with sensitivity. I try to maintain a balance between being their mother, their life teacher, and their emotional refuge.”.

To first-time mothers, she offers a piece of empathetic advice: “Trust yourself. Learn to listen to yourself, to observe your child, and to make decisions with love and common sense. Motherhood is a path of constant growth. We shouldn't be afraid of making mistakes; every mistake is also a lesson.”.

Through every word, Angheisa Bustamante reflects what being a mother truly means to her today: a woman who, without striving for perfection, transforms everyday chaos into love, and routine into an opportunity for mutual learning. “Being a mother didn’t make me perfect, but it did make me more human.”.
