SANTO DOMINGO.- The Renaissance Jaragua Hotel assured that the La Fiesta Theater continues to operate normally, after the technical inspection carried out last Thursday by the Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED), to verify the condition of the structure of the space where mass activities are carried out.
Elizabeth Mavridis, the hotel's sales and marketing director, explained to El Inmobiliario that the inspected area corresponds to the theater, not a hall, and that the establishment has not yet received the official technical report from the government entity.
According to him, the technicians who conducted the visit left the premises without communicating any preliminary observations to the hotel management. "We are waiting to receive the report with any recommendations, if any," he stated.
Mavridis also stated that the venue remains operational and that an activity organized by the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) was held there approximately a week ago.
The inspection was carried out by the Directorate of Supervision of Private Works of the MIVHED at the La Fiesta Theater of the Renaissance Jaragua Hotel, following a complaint related to a water leak in the roof, specifically in the area of the stage where large-scale presentations and events are held.
During the survey, the technical team evaluated two areas of the roof: the roof above the stage and the one covering the main hall of the event space. According to official information, water accumulation was detected in both areas, apparently due to the deterioration of the waterproofing system and sections of the roof that do not have the proper slope for drainage.
In addition, the technicians identified equipment installed on the roof above the platform area, so they recommended a technical review of the structural calculation to confirm that the roof design correctly considers the loads generated by these elements.
The MIVHED reported that the technical report with the observations and recommendations will be sent to the establishment's administration for the adoption of the corresponding measures.
The agency stated that these types of inspections are part of its ongoing efforts to supervise public and private buildings where mass gatherings take place, with the aim of ensuring adequate safety conditions for attendees.
