SANTO DOMINGO.– Argentine tennis player Juan Martín del Potro, two-time Olympic medalist and former US Open champion, highlighted the advantages of the Dominican Republic to consolidate itself as a sports tourism destination due to its strategic geographical location.
The South American star visited the country as a guest of the program "Entrepreneurs with David Collado," where he thanked the Dominican people for their hospitality and shared a lunch with opinion leaders, media directors, and Dominican tennis personalities.
Collado highlighted Del Potro's character, emphasizing the resilience he always showed in his sporting life and the role model of overcoming adversity that he represents for up-and-coming young athletes.
“Del Potro is not only Argentinian, he belongs to all of Latin America, and his presence here in the Dominican Republic will have an impact on all the young tennis players who are coming up through the ranks,” stated Collado, who also explained his firm personal conviction to continue consolidating the country as an ideal destination for sports tourism on the continent.
Juan Martín Del Potro also spent time with more than 50 young tennis players at the Santo Domingo Tennis Club in this capital city, where they received a clinic for more than 2 hours, in which they hit balls with "The Tower of Tandil" and received advice and guidance to improve their tennis.
Del Potro is a former Argentine tennis player who began competing in 2005 and, after a 17-year career in professional tennis, retired in 2022. He is considered one of the best Argentine tennis players in history, along with Guillermo Vilas.
