SANTO DOMINGO. – The Dominican Republic reached the highest number of visitors in its history in the first six months of the year , receiving 6,145,008 vacationers , which represents 1,996,201 more than in the same period of 2019 and 185,166 above last year.
This was revealed by President Luis Abinader and Minister David Collado, when they released statistics on the performance of the tourism sector during an event held at a hotel in the Dominican capital, in the presence of key industry players and media.
President Luis Abinader highlighted the extraordinary growth of tourism in the country and its impact on the economy.
The president also said that this is the best time to invest in the Dominican Republic , especially in the tourism sector.
He indicated that thanks to a great public-private partnership, tourism will continue to grow and diversify.
David Collado, who presented the figures demonstrating the remarkable growth of tourism, reported that the figure of 6,145,008 visitors represents an increase of 48% compared to the same period in 2019, 15% compared to 2023 and 3% compared to 2024.

the country received 4,514,093 tourists by air during the January-June period, which he described as extraordinary.
He said that this growth is also felt by sea, with the arrival of 1,630,915 cruise passengers in the January-June period, the highest in its history.
"When you see those two figures together, you realize how much we've grown: 6,145,008 visitors chose our country for their vacations. This is historic," Collado said.
The countries of origin that contributed the most visitors were the United States with 45%, Canada with 18%, Argentina 6% and Colombia with 4%.
Puerto Rico, France, England, Chile and Germany each contributed 2%, Minister Collado indicated.
The airports that received the most tourists were Punta Cana with 2,845,622, Las Américas with 888,331 and Cibao with 454,804.
Puerto Plata follows with 227,842, Romana with 62,441 and the remaining 35,053 arrived at other airports.
During the period January-June , it was found that occupancy exceeded 77%.
Collado stated that Dominican tourism is at its best and assured that by the end of the year the figure of 12 million visitors will be reached.
