SANTO DOMINGO- Within the framework of the Botanical Bridges 2024 Congress in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, the Piñero Group, in collaboration with the Botanical Garden of Santo Domingo, presented the project "Actions to improve plant biodiversity in Playa Nueva Romana in San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic."
This project, implemented since 2019 in the green areas of Playa Nueva Romana, has as its main objective the restoration and improvement of plant biodiversity in the environment of the residential project and golf course, a press release highlights.
"The actions implemented by the Piñero Group include the removal of invasive species, the planting of native trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants, as well as the promotion of elements that favor the natural dispersal of seeds and, therefore, facilitate spontaneous regeneration. These measures not only contribute to the recovery of lost diversity, but also improve the environmental quality of the region," the press release states.
He adds that an essential component of the project focuses on managing pest and disease control in the flora, while also implementing an organic plant nutrition system based on natural extracts. They are also applying alternative methods of ecological management of plant waste, aimed at carbon sequestration and natural soil enrichment.
