Hotel segments and availability
Data from the Tourism Information System (Situr) indicates that hotel occupancy in 2025 was concentrated primarily in large-scale establishments, grouped in the "Big Player" segment, which includes hotels with high capacity and continuous operation. This type of accommodation registered availability levels exceeding 90% in destinations such as Bávaro-Punta Cana (94.3%), Bayahibe (92.1%), and La Romana (91.8%).
In contrast, boutique hotels and smaller properties, classified as “Boutique Premium” and “Urban,” showed more variable occupancy rates, ranging from 75% to 85% depending on the destination. These segments are found in areas such as Samaná, Sosúa-Cabarete, Jarabacoa, and Barahona, where the supply is more limited and subject to seasonality.
The report also notes that occupancy rates combined short and long stays, with a higher concentration on weekends and during peak seasons. These patterns are reflected in Situr's monthly reports, which segment performance by establishment type, tourist destination, and operational availability.
