SANTO DOMINGO- In almost four years, Dominican civil aviation has achieved 438,836 air operations in arrivals and departures under the charter and regular modality, of which 46,002 correspond to non-regular air operations and 18,940 under the special permit modality; 281 new routes to different destinations worldwide, representing approximate income of more than 49 million dollars of direct and indirect income.
José Ernesto Marte Piantini, president of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), stated this Tuesday that the behavior of national air transport shows significant growth, "never before seen in terms of consolidating air connectivity in the Dominican Republic.".
He explained that air connectivity is a fundamental axis for the country's economic development, referring to the total number of operations carried out to and from the Dominican territory, from August 2020 to June 2024.
“A total of 438,836 air operations in arrivals and departures were carried out through the international airport terminals, with an average frequency of 1,275 flights per week to different destinations, under the charter and regular flight modality,” he pointed out.
He added that the 438,836 air operations, resulting from the movement of passengers and merchandise, yielded direct and indirect revenues estimated at $49,807 million for the Dominican economy.
He highlighted that air transport at the end of this first term of the government of the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, leaves a positive balance as a result of the actions taken by the members of the plenary, during these four years, "the current administration has been one of great challenges and important achievements for the sector, whose horizon is set on continuing to develop connectivity and air transport, which is evidenced in the authorization of 46,002 air operations under the non-regular or charter modality and 18,940 flights approved under the modality of Special Permits.".
Marte Piantini presented these figures during his fourth annual report as head of the agency responsible for establishing the country's commercial aviation policy. "Air connectivity is crucial for the comprehensive and sustainable development of the Dominican Republic," the JAC president emphasized, reporting that the country now boasts 281 new connections, resulting from the establishment of new routes to numerous destinations worldwide.
The official offered a detailed report of the achievements of the organization during these four years, in which he detailed the main actions of his administration, which have allowed the strengthening of civil aviation in the Dominican territory.
He emphasized that, since August 2020, Dominicans have had access to more global destinations. However, he explained the need to continue expanding the country's air connectivity network so that domestic airlines can reach other markets. "This expansion reflects President Luis Abinader's efforts to continue strengthening the national airline industry and facilitating trade and investment.".
