SANTO DOMINGO.- The Senate tourism committee received a delegation from the Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) and the World Tourism Organization, which presented the project of “Multidimensional Diagnosis of the Tourism Sector of the Dominican Republic”, which seeks to strengthen the policies of the Dominican government for this sector.
The president of the commission, Ginette Bournigal de Jiménez, praised the decision made by the state agency to show the Senate the proposals and plans aimed at boosting Dominican tourism.
"As senators concerned about the well-being of the country, we are ready to listen to you to learn about this initiative that we know will especially benefit our provinces," said the senator for Puerto Plata.
Carlos Peguero, Vice Minister of Tourism, explained that the proposal has the support of UN Tourism, and seeks to strengthen actions to promote tourism, with the commitment to create a strategy as a living route that can be adapted and accompanied by innovation and monitoring actions.
"We want the construction of this project to be participatory and for all social sectors to be able to get involved and make their contributions, that's why we are here in the Senate, showing its content," he said.
Likewise, Verónica Pinilla, a consultant for the World Tourism Organization, who gave a detailed presentation of the project, highlighted that the main objective is to move towards a sustainable model of resilient tourism and consolidate the Dominican Republic's tourism leadership as a comprehensive action that addresses the needs of the territories.
"The initiative is accompanied by actions to strengthen capacities, innovate, and monitor, because it is not only important to create a strategy, but also to measure its impact," the specialist indicated.
During the meeting, a discussion took place in which the senators representing the country's coastal provinces highlighted their willingness to help in the execution of the project.
