How to organize a stress-free move

Moving can be an uncomfortable experience for families and individuals, especially due to the need to transport household items to the new home. AD magazine offers some tips for making the process smoother:

1. Lists, your friends

Lists always solve even the most mundane problems. In this case, list all the tasks you need to complete, from "transporting the piano in a separate van" to "buying packing material for the dishes." You can also create a to-do list and subdivide the organization of the move itself.

2. Paint the new house before you move in

You'll save yourself a lot of trouble, and you can do it while you're packing your boxes. Think about it: if you paint your new place before you arrive, the move can be considered complete once your belongings reach your new home. Other improvements, like changing the flooring, can wait, but if you can get that done too, that's another thing to cross off your list. That way, you can pack knowing that peace and quiet await you on the other side.

3. Classifying is an art

Of all the tasks involved in moving, the heart of the operation lies in properly classifying the items you have at home. For example, you can make a separate list for different types of clothing, books, kitchenware, bathroom and bedroom items, and even furniture. This way, when you actually move, the process will be much more efficient and organized.

4. Get rid of what you don't need

We're constantly telling ourselves we need to get rid of all those jackets inherited from our brother or the encyclopedias our parents bought in the '90s. And that moment has arrived. Moving is also the perfect excuse to discard all those items we no longer need;a great way to save ourselves a car trip and boost this renewal process.

5. Don't insist on doing it alone

Moves are a common occurrence, especially for couples. You know the drill: stress, disagreements, and the inevitable "I told you so," "if only you'd listened," and so on. In these situations, don't hesitate to ask for help to streamline the process: from consulting friends to hiring a professional moving company, you'll find various allies who can further simplify this important change.

6. Wrap properly

Packing and wrapping the different items correctly is essential to avoid any "surprises" during the move: wrap all the kitchen knives well, store the lamps properly – you can add a soft base to the base and surface so they don't break – and place the books by size in the boxes to further optimize the space when starting the process.

7. Label the boxes

Remember that the main goal when moving is to save time, and trust me, you can waste a lot of time opening every single box to find out what's inside. Grab a marker and write the contents of each box on it once you've finished packing. It's much better to open the box of plants, towels, or bedding than to open boxes at random. If you want to go a step further, another good idea is to write down the names of the items inside along with the room (bedroom, bathroom) the box is going to.
