SANTO DOMINGO. - President Luis Abinader announced yesterday, Wednesday, the start of the land titling in Los Haitises National Park and the Loma Novillero Forest Reserve in Villa Altagracia , with more than 43 million square meters of land destined to strengthen the protection and preservation of the environmental heritage of the Dominican Republic.
In Los Haitises, 35.2 million square meters will be regularized , while in the Loma Novillero , in Villa Altagracia, it will be 7.9 million square meters.
These processes will allow the issuance of demarcated and registered title certificates in the name of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources , in accordance with the National System of Protected Areas (Sinap) .
For years, many of these spaces were registered in the name of different public institutions such as the Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD), the Directorate of National Assets or the CEA , which generated dispersion and limited the effective protection of natural resources.
“Taking care of what is ours is a sacred duty for every Dominican, and even more so for us as a public administration. It is a culture we want to foster and deepen every day. What belongs to everyone also belongs to each of us, so its protection and proper care is a task to which we must dedicate our best efforts,” stated President Abinader.
In addition, he announced the formation of a working group that, in coordination with SINAP, was responsible for organizing the pilot titling process for Lomas Novillero and Los Haitises , which covers the provinces of Monte Plata, Duarte, Hato Mayor and Samaná.
Abinader emphasized that this action is part of a national strategy to organize, document, and legally protect natural protected areas , dividing the process by regions and levels of complexity until it encompasses all the parks in the country.
To date, the Government has titled more than 730 million square meters in Jaragua National Park and Bahía de Las Aguilas National Recreation Area , as well as in José Del Carmen Ramírez National Park.
With this project, the Government seeks to set a historic precedent in the legal defense of national parks and protected areas , guaranteeing their preservation for present and future generations.
