Construction projects with permits registered a year-on-year growth of 53%, according to the ONE

SANTO DOMINGO - The number of construction projects with private sector licenses last year totaled 8,426, representing a 53.3% increase compared to 2021, according to data contained in the 2022 Economic Statistics Yearbook of the National Statistics Office (ONE).

According to the document, 1,560 building permits were granted to the private sector last year, of which 65.8% were for apartment buildings and 13.8% for single-family homes. 27.2% of the permits granted were for Santo Domingo, 21.4% for the National District, and 21.3% for Santiago.

Likewise, 56.2% of the licensed constructions were located in Santo Domingo, 14.3% in Santiago, and 12.4% in La Altagracia.

The private construction statistics for the sector include general activities, as well as specialized activities related to buildings and civil works, including new construction, modifications, extensions and renovations, temporary structures, entire homes, office buildings, warehouse premises, service buildings, etc.

 According to the data recorded for this yearbook, the main results of the sector during the year 2022 indicate that apartment constructions (including tourist residential) represented 80.7%, 7.1% was housing and 4.5% in combined constructions (commercial and housing).

“The area of ​​construction with private sector licenses was 8,143,972.8 square meters, 3,580,719.4 square meters of which were in Santo Domingo, representing 44% of the total. Meanwhile, the area designated for total construction was 6,003,609.2 m2, which represented 73.7% of the total,” the study states.

According to the ONE, the number of licensed constructions was: Santo Domingo 4,732, National District 436, Santiago 1,206, La Altagracia 1,042, San Francisco de Macorís 210, San Cristóbal 107, Samaná 100, Puerto Plata 58, La Vega 43 and Sánchez Ramírez 41.

The assessed value of the private licenses granted totaled RD$121,915.4 million pesos, with a growth of 21.3% compared to 2021.

Investment with licenses in the private sector in Santo Domingo was RD$49,742,753,444; in Santiago 20,222,454,119; while in La Altagracia it reached 16,308,002,852.

Populations

Santo Domingo had the highest number of licenses granted with a total of 424, followed by the National District with 334, Santiago with 333, La Altagracia with 144, San Francisco de Macorís with 59, Moca with 40, La Vega with 32, San Cristóbal with 16, and Samaná with 23, among others.

Square meters

The yearbook states that the largest amount of square meters in the past year 2022 were built in the province of Santo Domingo with 3,580,719; Santiago 1,272,841 and La Altagracia with 1,073,507 square meters.
