The nearly RD$137 million intervention seeks to recover one of Peravia's main public spaces and strengthen the province's tourism and economic development
SANTO DOMINGO.– The province of Peravia joins the process of transforming coastal areas promoted by the Ministry of Tourism (MITUR), with the start of the remodeling works of Los Almendros beach and the Baní boardwalk, an intervention that seeks to turn this space into a new point of attraction for visitors and boost the local economy.
According to information provided by MITUR, the project will have an investment of RD$136.9 million and is part of the program to recover public spaces and seafronts that the institution is developing in different destinations in the country.
Beyond the construction of a physical structure, the project aims to strengthen the tourism offerings of the south, expand opportunities for local businesses, and provide a safer and more functional space for both residents and visitors.
A new bet for tourism in the south
During the groundbreaking ceremony, Tourism Minister David Collado stated that the renovation will mark "a before and after" for Baní, considering that it will help position the province on the national tourism map.
The official explained that the recovery of coastal areas is one of the ministry's main lines of work, with the purpose of rescuing areas of high scenic value and turning them into suitable environments for tourism, recreation and citizen coexistence.
What does the project include?
The work will be carried out by the Executive Committee for Infrastructure in Tourist Areas (CEIZTUR), and will cover an intervention of 9,978 square meters, with an area of influence of more than 13,600 square meters.
The main components include:
- Construction of squares and terraces.
- Commercial modules for sales.
- Street furniture.
- Recreational areas.
- Paving works.
- Sanitary and electrical networks.
- Landscaping and environmental restoration.
- Parking.
- Spaces for solid waste management.
- Public restrooms.
- Children's games.
- Outdoor exercise equipment.
- Support buildings for security and emergency response.
More than a beach
The restoration of the boardwalk and Los Almendros beach also seeks to improve the environmental and operational conditions of the seafront, organize the use of public space and create a more resilient environment in the face of the challenges of coastal areas.
For the tourism sector, this type of intervention also represents an opportunity to diversify the range of destinations outside of traditional centers, incorporating provinces with recreational and cultural potential that can attract national and international visitors.
MITUR maintains that the modernization of spaces such as the Baní boardwalk has an effect that transcends tourism activity, favoring sectors such as commerce, gastronomy, services and local entrepreneurship.
