SANTO DOMINGO - With projections that if everything continues smoothly, December 2022 will close with the arrival of 800,000 tourists, representing a 23% increase over 2019, the Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) announced yesterday that the Dominican Republic received 571,354 tourists during the month of November, generating more than 532 million dollars in foreign exchange.
Tourism Minister David Collado stated that in the first eleven months of the year the country registered the visit of almost 7.5 million people, which is equivalent to US$7.8 million in foreign exchange, "in the same period according to estimates that must be confirmed by the Central Bank.".
The official reported that last month was the best November on record, as the country received 571,354 tourists by air, 109,489 more tourists than those who arrived in the same month of November in 2019, representing an increase of 24 percent.
“In November we did it again, reaching record numbers of 571,354 tourists arriving by air alone, which represents a 24 percent increase in arrivals compared to November 2019. It is a true success story month after month,” Collado emphasized.
He reported that of the 571,354 tourists who arrived in the country last month, 476,647 were foreigners and 94,707 were non-resident Dominicans.
Collado also highlighted the growth in the arrival of cruise passengers, with 195,270 visits recorded in November, compared to 111,128 in the same month of 2019.
In the period January-November, 1,085,606 cruise ship passengers arrived in the country, compared to the 948,118 who visited us in the same period of 2019.
“If we add up the 571,354 tourists who arrived by air and the 195,270 who came via cruise ships, we're talking about the historic figure of 766,624 visitors in the month of January. If that isn't a record, then I don't know what is,” the official asked.
