As part of his effort to continue strengthening and diversifying tourism in the province of La Altagracia, Minister David Collado initiated the reconstruction work on the Women's Park (obelisk), as well as sidewalks and curbs around the perimeter of the basilica , the country's main sanctuary.
These interventions, with a total investment of RD 33,268,314 , will have a great impact on the beautification of the surroundings of the basilica, visited by thousands of parishioners.
Collado stated that small works like these make a difference to an entire environment and especially to a religious symbol like the Basilica of Higüey.
"The restoration of public spaces and the beautification of surroundings make a real difference. It's a true added value to places as special as the Basilica of Higüey," the official said.
He indicated that the well-being and growth of tourism in destinations like La Altagracia, where the largest number of tourists visiting the country arrive, should be reflected in works that directly impact its population.
Reconstruction of the Women's Park (obelisk)
The project, with an investment of RD$7,687,803 , involves the reconstruction of La Mujer Park (obelisk) located in the center of the municipality of Higüey . The work will cover a total area of approximately 455.32 square meters.
The works include: intervention of the obelisk, concrete paving, concrete and synthetic wood slabs on the central walkway, planters, stairs, ramps, sidewalks and curbs, benches, urban equipment, grates for rainwater drainage, lighting and urban tree planting.
Tourism in Higüey offers a combination of cultural, religious and adventure attractions , as well as places like this park, known to all, to complement the diversity of the municipality's offerings.
Reconstruction of sidewalks and curbs
The project to reconstruct the sidewalks and curbs around the perimeter of the Basilica Cathedral of Our Lady of La Altagracia is an intervention of 505 square meters, with an investment of RD 25,580,511 .
This intervention covers 259 linear meters of the north sidewalk and another 246 linear meters of the south sidewalk.
It will also include the reconstruction of cobblestone sidewalks, curbs and pedestrian crossing at the front entrance of the Basilica, concrete paving, construction of planters, urban tree planting, construction of accessibility ramps, lighting on road poles and provision of trash cans.
In addition to the Minister of Tourism, the main provincial and municipal authorities of La Altagracia attended the event.
