SANTO DOMINGO. – David Collado , Minister of Tourism, inaugurated the reconstruction of the La Romana pier this Thursday with an investment of 34,455,380 pesos , which will allow the development of new tourist activities.
It will serve for the docking of smaller boats and catamarans to benefit excursion services and maritime tourism in the area.
Collado highlighted the transformation that the entire coastal area of Caleta has exhibited with its new boardwalk and boulevard , which have brought fun and recreation for the entire Romanense family and its visitors.
"Projects like this, which were a long-standing demand of the community, have an extraordinary direct impact on the economy and tourism of the area," Collado said.
The official stated that the completion of this project will allow for the development of new commercial activities that will enhance the dynamism of tourist and economic activities, providing a new space for vessels that offer excursion services to Catalina Island, and the recovery of this public space.
Former congressman Vinicio Castillo Semán , speaking on behalf of the community, highlighted the importance of the new pier for the economic development of Caleta and praised the great work done by David Collado at the head of the Ministry of Tourism.
"I saw this community (Caleta) very depressed, very neglected despite its great beauty, and I have to give a testimony of the community's gratitude to Minister David Collado for this work," said the jurist and politician.
The project, with capacity for the docking of 8 catamarans or 11 small boats, was carried out by the Infrastructure Committee in Tourist Zones (Ceiztur) of the Ministry of Tourism.
The structure has a length of 30.92 meters and a width of 3.00 meters, equipped with a walkway with its railings and lighting.
This walkway is 32 meters long by 2 meters wide with handrails on both sides and lighting along the entire length of the structure, built in treated American pine.
It also includes a pier section for berthing, 26.50 meters long by 2.50 meters wide, and four perpendicular berthing sections, each 5.00 meters long by 2.00 meters wide. It is also clad in treated American pine.
During the event, the District Board of Caleta, La Romana, presented a plaque of recognition to David Collado for his dedication and commitment to the tourism development of the Dominican Republic and especially to this community, contributing to the promotion of the economic, cultural and social growth of its inhabitants.
The beach area was renovated and, during the dredging , an area 60 meters long by 30 meters wide was dredged to a depth of 1.20 meters more than the existing one, obtaining an extraction of sediment of 355 cubic meters of usable sand.
The event was attended by the main municipal and provincial authorities, as well as community members, fishermen's associations and merchants from the area and guests.
