SANTO DOMINGO. – The president of the National Confederation of Unified Transportation (CNTU), William Pérez Figuereo, announced this Monday that the nighttime bus corridor that will run along John F. Kennedy Avenue will operate from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
The drivers' leader explained that the fare will be 45 pesos, the same cost charged during the daytime.
“The same price we are charging during the day will be charged at night, which is 45 pesos for the fare,” he said.
He indicated that, in the first stage, the night route will cover from kilometer 28 of the Duarte highway, starting from the intersection of Duarte with Paris, to Isla and Formón, covering one of the main road corridors of Greater Santo Domingo.
Pérez Figuereo pointed out that this service is aimed at people who leave their jobs in the early hours of the morning or who run errands outside of normal hours, who will now have a regular transportation alternative.
Regarding operations, he reported that initially 25 units will be put on the streets, which have an operating license for the corridor.
“We have the permit for 25 units and we are going to gradually increase them,” he specified.
Buses
The units that will operate during this nighttime schedule will be buses with an initial capacity for 15 passengers, according to information provided by the CNTU.
Once the corridor is formally operational, the incorporation of buses with an initial capacity for 40 passengers is planned.
Pérez Figuereo also indicated that all vehicles will be properly identified and will have a QR code, which will allow the location of the bus, the name of the driver, the schedule and the route to be known, as part of the measures to improve the safety and organization of the service.
Finally, the leader emphasized that this initiative involves an economic effort from the transport sector, aimed at providing a service that citizens demand.
