SANTO DOMINGO - Dronix, the Drone Pilot School, and the Dominican Association of Surveyors (Asodagrim) held the second edition of the workshop "The Fascinating World of Drones 2025 ," with the aim of bringing surveying professionals and technology enthusiasts closer to the practical and transformative applications of this tool in sectors such as topography, agriculture, mining, and land management .
The training day began with motivational words from Victor Torres , president of Asodagrim, who urged his colleagues and the general public to stay constantly updated and seek out spaces "like this meeting, where their knowledge increases and professional relationships are strengthened in order to have a better offer to the labor market."
For his part, Carlos Cepeda , general manager of Dronix, gave the first talk explaining how to get started in the world of drones, where he emphasized that piloting a UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, as it is also called) means knowing the regulations and provisions of the country's authorities and the physical and technical aspects that this art or trade entails.
“Flying a drone, especially in professional contexts, requires technical training, precision, and regulatory knowledge, so it should be considered a trade or a specialized professional skill. This includes abilities such as operating manual and automated controls, interpreting geospatial data, knowledge of aviation regulations, and using specialized sensors and cameras,” Cepeda explained.
Throughout the activity developed at District Event Venue, attendees were able to explore topics ranging from the principles of drone piloting to advanced applications in surveying, mining, agriculture, GIS (Geographic Information Systems) modeling and live demonstrations.
The program included presentations starting in the fascinating world of drones, finance and entrepreneurship, a 3D printer demonstration, drones in the field: surveying and mining, GIS for real projects, advanced geospatial solutions and automation and analysis with AI in drones.
The day concluded with special raffles, scholarships for courses, equipment for surveyors, including a 3D printer.
This meeting has brought together various institutional allies and companies from the technology and surveying sector as part of a vision of professional strengthening and continuous updating.
The organizers highlighted that this edition represents an important step towards the professionalization of drone use in the Dominican Republic and opens new development opportunities for those seeking to start or apply new technologies in their work fields.
