SANTO DOMINGO. - The Santo Domingo Ring Road will be renamed Professor Juan Bosch , while the Ecological Avenue located in Santo Domingo East will be named Doctor José Francisco Peña Gómez , according to the emergency approval made this Monday by the Senate of the Republic.
The project, authored by Alfredo Pacheco, president of the Chamber of Deputies, was approved in the Lower House five days ago.
The senators decided, by majority vote, to give it rapid approval and send it to the Executive Branch for its promulgation.
The legislation highlights Peña Gómez, who was a lawyer , revolutionary patriot, and political leader , both nationally and internationally. It also notes that he was a pioneer of participatory democracy, a defender of fundamental rights, and held important positions in international organizations.
"It is fitting that this avenue bears the name of one of the greatest Dominicans of all time," the commission's report .
Regarding Professor Juan Bosch , the project highlights his career as a short story writer , novelist, historian, educator, and president of the Republic in 1962.
He is also recognized as an ethical and patriotic role model, and it is emphasized that his life "was dedicated to building a and educated homeland ."
The report states that Bosch promoted fundamental values such as honesty , social justice , and education, elements that marked his and intellectual management Santo Domingo Ring Road , one of the most important roads in the country, " should bear his name ."
The bill establishes that the Santo Domingo Ring Road will be officially designated as " Professor Juan Bosch " along its entire length, from the Sánchez Highway to the Northeast Highway .
Meanwhile, the Avenue will be named "Doctor José Francisco Peña Gómez ", in the section between Avenue (San Isidro Highway) and Avenue , in Santo Domingo East .
