SANTO DOMINGO- Regarding the new announcement by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, that the short-stay rental model in the country will be regulated this February, the president of the Short-Stay Rental Association (Adoreco), Elvyn Peña, believes that in this process it is vital that all interested parties be taken into account at the time of the decision.
“Regulations are fundamental to ensuring a fair and safe operating framework. It is vital that all stakeholders have a voice in the regulatory process, to ensure legislation that benefits all parties and is presented in a public forum,” the businessman explained in an interview with El Inmobiliario.
During the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) last January, Collado reported that "We have the regulatory agreement, which is in its final stage. David Llibre, president of ASONAHORES, asked us for a grace period to share it with the public. The regulatory agreement is ready, and we told him that if they don't respond, we will release it this February," the official stated.
From Elvyn Peña's point of view, the regulation should include requirements such as ensuring that the properties correspond faithfully to their advertisements, smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, among other aspects of quality and truthfulness.
The professional, who has been in the short-term rental business for five years, urges entrepreneurs and investors to stay up-to-date with market regulations and practices, arguing that it is crucial to act as responsible members of the community, addressing and mitigating any negative impacts their operations may generate.
Adoreco
Regarding Adoreco, he explains that it was formed in November 2023 by a group of short-term rental owners and managers with the purpose of organizing and collaborating for the common good in that sector.
Its main objective, it says, is to establish quality and safety standards in short-term rentals, to ensure that its members provide exceptional experiences to guests.
Currently, the association has 82 active members, and maintains contact with a community of another 400 interested in joining the association at the next assembly, Peña explains.
It explains that membership is open to anyone who manages or owns properties dedicated to short-term rentals and includes members from all over the country.
Regarding the regulations for becoming part of Adoreco, he maintains that it is an extensive and well-structured document, which is available to members.
