The "Free Flow" system that RD Vial will implement by 2025 will reduce congestion at toll plazas

Plans for next year include reducing manual toll collection to a maximum of 15% and preventive maintenance of infrastructure.

SANTO DOMINGO – RD Vial presented yesterday the Free Flow system, whose implementation promises by 2025 not only to optimize mobility on the main Dominican roads and highways, but will also strengthen road safety, significantly reducing congestion at toll stations and their access points, according to the director of the RD Vial Trust, Jean Luis Rodríguez.

"Each of these projects reinforces our commitment to efficiently connect the country's main regions, reduce travel times and improve road safety, transforming our road network into a world-class one," the official said.

He explained that the Free Flow system will operate using sensors and cameras that will identify vehicles and process payments in real time, allowing continuous transit without the need to stop.

He stated that for next year, RD Vial will prioritize the implementation of the Free Flow system, the reduction of manual toll collection to a maximum of 15%, and the preventive maintenance of infrastructure.

Free Flow model will mark a turning point in the country's mobility, aligning us with our vision of ensuring a faster and safer vehicular flow, while optimizing the user experience," commented Rodríguez.

According to data provided by the entity, 2024 closed with a historic record in the use of the Paso Rápido system, increasing from 15% to 60% of the lanes with this system nationwide, reducing congestion and improving traffic flow.

“During 2024, RD Vial allocated more than RD$762 million to technological upgrades at key toll plazas, including the Duarte Highway, Las Américas Highway, and the 6 de Noviembre Highway. This effort enabled the opening of 60% more lanes for the Paso Rápido system nationwide,” a press release highlights.

He added that the "Free Flow" system is a model that will eliminate physical barriers at the country's toll stations.

Among the achievements in 2024, the agency highlighted the investment of over RD$29 billion in key infrastructure projects, including the expansion of the Duarte Highway, the Ecological Avenue, and the bypasses of Baní, Azua, San Francisco de Macorís, and Navarrete. In addition, conditions were improved on strategic roads such as the Las Américas Highway and the Barahona-Enriquillo and Enriquillo-Pedernales highways.
