SANTO DOMINGO.-The parents and wife of the young police officer Virgilio Rafael Cruz Aponte, one of the fatalities of the tragedy that occurred at the Jet Set nightclub, filed a criminal complaint yesterday, Monday, against the owners of the entertainment center, Antonio Espaillat López and Elsa Grecia López, and the company E and L, SR L, for involuntary manslaughter.
Félix Portes, lawyer for the plaintiffs Aidé Dolores Aponte Moni and Dionnis Rafael Cruz Rosario, parents of the victim and his widow Wendely Manelí Ramírez Gómez, said that the legal action includes a lawsuit against the State for alleged failure to fulfill its duty of supervision.
The accusation also extends to the Mayor's Office of the National District, for not having adequately monitored the land use and the safety of the structure of the nightclub, whose roof suffered a collapse on Tuesday the 8th, which to date has claimed the lives of 231 people, including that of the member of the National Police.
The lawyer said that they have not yet determined the amount of the claim.
Cruz Aponte is originally from the province of La Altagracia, located in the East of the Dominican Republic, where he received a Christian burial without his body being allowed to be seen by the public due to its deterioration.
The nightclub's roof collapsed while merengue singer Rubby Pérez, who also died at the scene, was performing at a party attended by approximately 600 people, according to authorities. In addition to the fatalities, more than 100 people were injured.
