SANTO DOMINGO - The tourist area of Punta Cana, in the east of the Dominican Republic, is listed among the "best value destinations in the world 2025", in the Holiday Money Report 2025, prepared by the Post Office company in the United Kingdom.
The report focuses on highlighting low-cost travel destinations by taking advantage of currency exchange rates against the pound sterling and cheaper prices for restaurants and activities, with data obtained at the exchange rate of March 2, 2025.
According to the report, Punta Cana registered the largest price drop, with a decrease of 26.5%, making it the only Caribbean destination to be among the top 20, occupying position #19. It is the only island of the seven surveyed to be among the top 20.
It states that the Dominican destination, in 2024, had an average expenditure of 146.45 pounds sterling (RD$12,148.73), compared to 93.09 (RD$7,722.26) in 2025.
General information
The Post Office's 19th Annual Travel Spending Report surveyed 47 destinations to create the largest cost barometer to date. The report revealed that prices for food, drinks, and other items purchased by tourists have fallen in approximately half of the destinations analyzed in 2024.
To carry it out, several factors that can affect expenses during a vacation are taken into account, such as the prices of bars and restaurants and entrance fees to some of the most important points of interest.
The information was gathered, with the help of national and local tourism departments, by calculating the price of eight key items and experiences for travelers: coffee, beer, Coca-Cola, wine, bottled water, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a three-course meal.
Post Office Travel Money is the UK's largest foreign exchange provider and accounts for one in four foreign exchange transactions in the country.
