Onesvie reports over 1,300 structural assessments in five years

SANTO DOMINGO.- The National Office of Seismic Evaluation and Vulnerability of Infrastructure and Buildings ( Onesvie ) reported that between 2020 and November 2025, it has carried out 1,391 structural evaluations in different areas of the national territory.

"In 2025 alone were carried out , reflecting a sustained growth in the demand for specialized technical services and a significant advance in prioritizing prevention as a fundamental axis of public safety," the entity highlights in a press release.

He explained that the scope of the assessments includes educational centers, hospitals, public and private buildings, road infrastructure, aqueducts and other critical structures.

He said that as part of this strengthening, he has consolidated the Dominican Network of Structural Evaluators (REED) , made up of 366 certified engineers and architects, strengthening its operational capacity to respond to the growing demand for specialized studies.

For this new year, the entity plans to increase the number of assessments, reduce response times, expand its capacity to serve the public, and continue promoting a strong culture of structural prevention, consolidating its role as a technical pillar of the Dominican State in matters of prevention and risk management, it states.

Receives consular visit

Onesvie reported that it recently received a visit from Carlos Mendieta, Consul General of the Dominican Republic in Shanghai, during which strategic lines of work were discussed, aimed at modernizing the technical laboratory, promoting specialized training programs, strengthening school infrastructure, and developing international alliances to raise the country's structural safety standards, as well as support mechanisms for managing technical equipment and transferring knowledge.

The meeting was led by the general director of Onesvie, Leonardo Reyes Madera, and the deputy director, Nítida Sánchez.

The entity maintained that its institutional strengthening process is based on the legal function of the institution, as a technical body of the State responsible for evaluating the state of vulnerability and existing infrastructure and issuing technical recommendations for prevention, without carrying out works or imposing structural reinforcements directly, functions that correspond to other instances of the State according to the current legal framework.

The institution provides evaluation services to both public and private buildings, attending to formal requests from citizens, companies and institutions, thus expanding its preventative reach for the benefit of all of society
