The Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel) and the Institute of Dominicans Abroad (Index) held a meeting in this city with representatives of the press and the Dominican community , in which they launched a digital literacy and financial education aimed at promoting the safe use of digital tools and the responsible sending of remittances through digital channels.
The activity, held at the Consulate General of the Dominican Republic in New York, is part of the Dominican State to strengthen digital inclusion and financial protection for the diaspora, through access to reliable information, practical training and tools that contribute to better decision-making in digital environments, in conjunction with actors in the financial and technological ecosystem, including the support of the Association of Multiple Banks of the Dominican Republic (ABA) .
During the meeting, the president of the Board of Directors of Indotel, Guido Gómez Mazara, emphasized the importance of strengthening the digital capabilities of citizens abroad, stating that: “digital literacy is key for our citizens to be able to navigate increasingly complex technological environments with greater confidence, and this agreement will allow us to bring clear and accessible training to the Dominican diaspora.”
For her part, the executive director of Index and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs for Dominican Communities Abroad, Ambassador Celinés Toribio , highlighted the human and social dimension of the initiative, noting that: “ When we talk about remittances, we are not just talking about money; we are talking about families, sacrifice, and bonds that remain unbroken, even across great distances. Digital and financial literacy is also a way to protect, support, and empower our people abroad.”
Likewise, the Consul General of the Dominican Republic in New York, Jesús 'Chú' Vásquez Martínez, valued the initiative as a tool for institutional support to the Dominican community residing abroad, stating that: “ Digital education empowers our community and strengthens the bond between the Dominican State and its citizens outside the country.”
As part of the meeting, the first materials of the campaign were presented, including audiovisual capsules and informative content designed to guide the diaspora on the safe use of digital platforms and the mechanisms available for sending remittances through formal channels .
The meeting concluded with an open exchange with the media, reaffirming the commitment of Indotel and Index to continue promoting joint initiatives aimed at generating a tangible and sustainable on Dominican communities abroad.
