Jarabacoa is once again adorned with color this weekend, with the opening of its fourteenth edition of the Flower Festival, featuring music, art and culture, which began this Thursday and will continue until tomorrow, Sunday, June 22.
This new edition is dedicated to Professor Jesús del Carmen Alcántara Galván, for his great compassion, his dedication as an educator in Jarabacoa, and his commitment to the environment. Santiago is also the guest city.
The flower festival is held in La Confluencia Ecological Park and aims to highlight the diversity of products, gastronomy, agriculture and services offered by Jarabacoa, the city of eternal spring.
For four days, local, national and foreign visitors will be able to enjoy a wide range of cultural, artistic, recreational and educational activities, especially related to flowers, as well as purchase various products and services.
Among the activities will be flower parades, art exhibitions, crafts, gastronomy, fashion shows, among others.
The mayor of the municipality of Jarabacoa, José Antonio Abreu Pichado, stated that the flower festival is one of the most important events in the entire region, where thousands of visitors come to enjoy the natural beauty of the place and the warmth of its people.
“Today we feel proud that this event is being celebrated 14 times and that together with the Flower Festival Foundation we are working to promote the municipality as an ecotourism destination at the national and international level,” said Abreu.
During the opening ceremony, an award was presented to the mayor of Santiago de los Caballeros, Ulises Rodríguez, for his support and unwavering commitment to the development of the Cibao region. This commitment has strengthened ties between the two cities, and the award recognizes his support for the festival as a symbol of cultural identity and regional promotion. The award was presented by Eunice Marmolejos and Mily Pérez.
Upon receiving the award, Rodríguez expressed his satisfaction at being able to participate in a festival that fills all Jarabacoans with pride, while congratulating the organizers and urging them to continue working to promote their municipality as they have done so far.
The official opening ceremony began with a performance by the Ministry of Tourism's folk ballet, who delighted and got the audience dancing with one of the rhythms that identifies us as Dominicans, merengue, followed by a masterful performance by Niní Cáffaro, among other artists.
The event was attended by Senator Rogelio Genao of La Vega province, Governor Luisa Jiménez Cabreja, Yamilka Cruz, the head of the Ministry of Tourism in the municipality of Jarabacoa, and other provincial, municipal, business, and military figures
