International design and architecture firm chooses the Dominican Republic to set up its Caribbean offices

For its Caribbean operations, Gensler will focus its portfolio on areas such as cities and urban design, mobility, residential, education, sustainability, retail, and hospitality.

SANTO DOMINGO – Gensler, a renowned global design and architecture firm, has opened its first office in the Caribbean, choosing the Dominican Republic as its headquarters. The country was selected due to the growing interest in developing high-impact infrastructure projects, and will serve as the base for more efficiently serving other markets in the region.

Founded in 1965, the firm has 57 offices worldwide and a team of over six thousand professionals. Its expansion into Latin America began with the opening of its Costa Rica office 18 years ago, and since then, it has opened other locations in Mexico City, Bogotá, Monterrey, and, in 2024, in the Dominican Republic.

"At Gensler, we understand that to be global, we must first be local, and this decision to establish an office in Santo Domingo responds to the need to be locally connected, be more agile in our approach to projects, and contribute value to the community," commented Javier Pérez, co-director of Gensler's office in the Dominican Republic.

He added that the new office will serve other markets that have also shown exponential growth, such as Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, and the Bahamas, among others, and emphasized that Gensler is characterized by providing personalized and innovative service in every project, regardless of its size or complexity.

The new operation is being launched with a team of 12 professionals on site, which is expected to almost triple within two years, and with the support of professionals working in Gensler's 57 operations worldwide, including teams in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

“Over the past three years, the firm has seen a 175% increase in human talent in the Latin American region. Gensler’s network of teams operates without borders, sharing experiences, trends, and lessons learned from diverse markets and cultures. This global connection allows us to translate international best practices into solutions tailored to local contexts, generating unique value for our clients,” explained Lola Guevara, co-director of Gensler’s Dominican Republic office.

For its Caribbean operations, Gensler will focus its portfolio on areas such as cities and urban design, mobility, residential, education, sustainability, retail, and hospitality.

With its arrival in the country, the firm is committed to addressing well-known local challenges such as mobility and environmental impact. "We work very closely with communities, seeking to create sustainable spaces that promote economic and social development," Pérez stated.

Global vision with a focus on the Caribbean

“In the region, we are seeing growth in sectors such as large-scale urban planning, mixed-use projects, industrial and logistics developments, as well as the hotel and hospitality sector. Our global vision, combined with an understanding of local needs, allows us to make significant contributions to all these productive sectors of the economy,” commented Lola Guevara, Co-Director of Gensler in the Dominican Republic.

To achieve this, Gensler invests in cross-cutting areas such as technology and research, enabling data-driven decision-making to understand people's needs in detail and how spaces can address them. Annually, the firm allocates 18% of its global revenue to the Gensler Research Institute, where a team of researchers explores the relationship between design, business, and human experience. The findings inform the firm's designs and generate valuable content that guides the strategies and solutions for each project Gensler develops, ensuring they have a significant impact.

“We want to contribute to the development of the Caribbean, collaborating with our clients to co-create a future where innovation, inclusion, and sustainability are fundamental pillars,” concluded Javier Pérez, co-director of Gensler Dominican Republic
