Free masterclass on tourism destination management: a boost for the country's sustainable development

SANTO DOMINGO - The Ministry of Tourism (MITUR), in collaboration with the World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), is convening a free masterclass entitled "Destination Management, Open Governance and Multi-Actor Approach for Tourism Sustainability", taught by expert María Luisa Galán Otero.


This masterclass represents a tangible commitment to more sustainable, inclusive, and strategic tourism for the Dominican Republic. In addition to training stakeholders in the sector, it lays the foundation for a shared vision that promotes economic development, environmental preservation, and improved quality of life in the country's tourist communities.


This initiative is part of the implementation of a national sustainable policy that seeks to position the Dominican Republic as a regional leader in responsible tourism, and private and community actors, academia, the public sector, technicians and officials (mayors, National and Regional MITUR) and participants in the process of building the National Sustainable Tourism Strategy (ENTS) are invited to participate.

It will be via the ZOOM platform on September 18, 2025 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and registrations through the form: Destination Management: Open Governance and Multi-Actor Approach for Tourism Sustainability – Sustainable Tourism Policy and Strategy.


This initiative is part of the cooperation project with UN Tourism, aimed at creating and implementing a Sustainable Tourism Policy and Strategy in the Dominican Republic, with the objective of aligning national priorities with international standards, generating responsible and lasting growth.


The transfer of strategic knowledge to consolidate resilient and participatory tourism strengthens human capital in the sector, thanks to open participation from the public and private sectors, communities, academia, mayors and technicians of the country.


It will be a high-level experience on an international scale, with María Luisa Galán Otero, who has more than 20 years of experience in tourism development in 25 countries and holds a master's degree in Local Tourism Destination Management (University of Barcelona) and Sustainable Tourism and ICT.

Similarly, by promoting a tourism model that values ​​natural resources, culture, and community well-being, inclusive economic development, the creation of sustainable jobs, and the strengthening of the social fabric are promoted.
