SANTO DOMINGO.- President Luis Abinader issued three decrees yesterday, eliminating three state entities, in an effort that, according to the government, seeks to rationalize and modernize the public administration, avoiding duplication of roles.
Through decree 637-24, the Presidential Commission for Port Modernization and Security was eliminated , whose functions will be assumed by the Dominican Port Authority (Apordom), which will also be in charge of the current legal and contractual commitments, explains the statement from the Presidency.
He explains that the assets of this commission will be managed by the General Directorate of National Assets, who will transfer the necessary assets to the Port Authority to continue its work in the port sector.
It adds that the General Directorate of Budget will manage the unspent funds, and the Ministry of Public Administration will be responsible for the relocation and management of the staff.
"Furthermore, this decree repeals several previous provisions that supported the existence of the commission, consolidating its functions under a single administrative entity to improve efficiency and reduce duplication in public administration," it states.

Similarly, Decree 636-24 abolishes the International Advisory Commission on Science and Technology . The Ministry of Education will assume responsibility for completing its ongoing programs and will continue with its legal and contractual obligations .
The administration of its assets will be transferred to the General Directorate of National Assets , which will transfer the necessary ones to the Ministry of Education so that it can continue with these functions, while the Budget will manage the unexecuted budget items of this commission, and the Ministry of Public Administration will collaborate in the relocation, termination and compensation of the staff.
The National Population and Family Council (Conapofa) was also eliminated by Decree 640-24 , and its functions will be assumed by the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance, which will also become the legal successor to its outstanding contractual and legal obligations. The General Directorate of National Assets will manage its assets and transfer those necessary to the Ministry of Public Health to ensure the continuity of its functions.

This decree repeals previous provisions related to the existence of Conapofa, consolidating its functions under the structure of the Ministry of Health, in line with the National Development Strategy and public spending efficiency policies
"These decrees represent a significant step towards the consolidation and modernization more efficient state structure aligned with the needs of the country ," the Presidency highlights.
