Dubai points to the Dominican Republic as an emerging logistics hub and a tourism example for the Caribbean

DUBAI – The Dominican Republic continues to position itself on the global radar as a strategic hub for trade and investment. During the 2026 World Government Summit in Dubai, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of the logistics group DP World, emphasized that the country has solidified its position as a reliable destination for international capital thanks to its economic stability and favorable business environment.

“The country is attractive because there is confidence, there is economic flow, and there is a government that supports business development ,” the executive stated, referring to the Dominican investment climate. These remarks are part of a broader narrative in which the country seeks to become a regional logistics hub capable of connecting markets in Latin America, the Caribbean, and the U.S. East Coast.

A country that aims to be the bridge of trade

President Luis Abinader reaffirmed on the same stage that the nation "is consolidating itself as a strategic logistics center for international trade," supported by its democratic stability and public-private partnerships.

Geographic location has been a key argument. According to the president, the country serves as a natural bridge between the Caribbean and the continent's major markets, opening up new business and employment opportunities. This approach is reflected in concrete projects such as the Port of Manzanillo, which is progressing as a project designed to expand national logistics capacity, facilitate exports, and strengthen trade connectivity.

In parallel, the Government has held talks with other countries, such as Paraguay or Ecuador, to use the Dominican hub as a platform for agricultural exports to international markets, a clear sign that the country seeks to become a regional distribution node.

Punta Cana: proof that a territorial vision can transform regions

For international investors, the Dominican Republic's appeal extends beyond its ports and free trade zones. Tourism, and Punta Cana , stands as a tangible example of what a sustained strategy can achieve.

Bin Sulayem emphasized that destinations like this demonstrate “how a strategic vision can transform territories into growth hubs with direct connections to Europe and the Americas.” The executive also noted that DP World has been operating in the country for 25 years, during which time it has developed logistics and airport infrastructure that strengthens connectivity with the United States and Latin America and integrates the country into global supply chains.

Looking back, he explained that when they began operations, “the airport was merely a transit point,” but they soon identified significant potential in the area between the airport and the port to generate added value. Today, that combination of air connectivity, logistics infrastructure, and tourism growth helps explain why the country is seen as a natural partner for global trade.
