Regarding basic services, Méndez explained that the electricity sector is barely affected, operating at close to 98% of its capacity, while the road infrastructure registered minor damage, including one highway , as well as local roads being repaired by supervision brigades.
The general also specified that 51 aqueducts were affected, impacting 542,027 users. Of these systems, 46 experienced service limitations and 5 remain partially affected. The measures were implemented preventively to avoid further damage.
Méndez highlighted that government institutions, primarily the social cabinet, have provided assistance to those affected, including food and basic supplies, while civil protection agencies and the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) have maintained a constant flow of information to ensure the safety of the population.
“Thanks to the coordination between institutions and preventive planning, we have managed to minimize the impacts of the phenomenon, saving lives and property,” concluded the director of the COE, General Juan Manuel Méndez.
