SANTO DOMINGO. - For having reached its 20th anniversary developing major investments in the country's real estate and hotel tourism, Ciudad Destino Cap Cana was recognized yesterday by the Chamber of Deputies, in an event attended by President Luis Abinader.

Fernando Hazoury, Chairman of the Board of Directors, upon receiving the award from the Speaker of the Lower House, Alfredo Pacheco, highlighted that the business group has invested 3.5 billion dollars over two decades, of which US$1.5 billion were allocated to infrastructure, which, in his view, allows them to have a real platform for growth.

The solemn tribute, held in the National Assembly Hall, was carried out in accordance with a resolution approved by the Lower House on September 28, which highlights his significant contributions to the country's economy and his international standing.

Hazoury took advantage of the opportunity and asked Dominican authorities not to forget that tourism is the "oil" of the Dominican Republic and that, for him, it is still in its "pre-adolescent" stage.

He asked the country to give more attention to real estate tourism, a subsector that he believes is active and continuously growing.

Pacheco emphasized that for the Lower House and the National Congress it was a great honor to pay tribute to the business group as a way of testifying that it has contributed to good investments and added value to tourism and the business sector.

Hazoury stated that he understands that the country must double the arrival of tourists and exceed it.

He expressed his gratitude for the recognition received, which he says would culminate the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Cap Cana Destination City, an anniversary they have been celebrating for almost a year.

A spontaneous mother

Cándida Mercedes Toral, widow of Hazoury, added a humorous touch to the solemn ceremony by speaking impromptu.

She introduced herself as the mother of "these young Hazourys," and revealed that when they were little she knew they would be capable of great things and that "thankfully" they were good things.

"They were unbearable," he revealed, adding that, as tireless workers, he doesn't know how they managed to achieve what they did.

He described them as "ambitious" and said that they really like "business and money.".

His innocent revelation was met with laughter and applause.
