Cap Cana reported yesterday that the authorities, through an operation involving more than 100 people, managed to extinguish the fire that started on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 2nd in Villas Caletón, which left 10 villas consumed and two partially affected, out of the 16 units that the residential complex has.
He said that the operation was led, in addition to the destination, by the Emergency Operations Center (COE) and the 911 Emergency System and that 10 villas were completely affected, and 2 were partially affected out of the 16 houses that make up the residential area.
These are the first villas in Cap Cana built with wood and a thatched roof, and they have been in operation for more than 15 years, the resort explained in a statement.
"The fire was extinguished at 4:00 a.m. yesterday, Thursday, with the support of the Directorate of Emergency and Disaster Response (DAEH), 23 trucks and 7 units from the Verón-Punta Cana Fire Department, the Cap Cana firefighting team, and fire brigades from Higüey, Punta Cana Airport, Villa Hermosa, Yuma, La Romana, Bayahibe, San Pedro de Macorís, Nisibón, Guayacanes, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, San José de los Llanos, the private unit of the Meliá hotel, and the INAPA tanker unit," Cap Cana explained in a second statement.
He explained that the operation also involved Civil Defense, the National Police, Politur, the Central Directorate of Investigations (DICRIM), the Governor's Office of La Altagracia province, the 911 drone unit, and the support of the entire community of the destination.
"Cap Cana had several fire hydrants available in areas such as the golf course founders, the lagoons, and Villas Caletón, in addition to the irrigation system of the Punta Espada golf course, relying on its robust service infrastructure, which allowed for a rapid supply of water to the fire trucks that responded. Suction trucks were also used to draw water from nearby bodies of water," he explained.
He said that fortunately there were no injuries or loss of life to report.
The statement added that more than 100 people from all the aforementioned entities joined forces to extinguish the fire as quickly as possible. "Cap Cana Destination City thanks all the authorities for their support and the maximum use of resources necessary to stop this blaze, and confirmed that they are currently continuing with the investigation to determine what caused it," the press release concluded.
