SANTO DOMINGO. - Banco BHD awarded five Dominican businesswomen in two categories and one honorable mention, in the first edition of the BHD Business Women Recognition.
The winners in the Small Business category were: Ingrid Bethel Reyes Núñez, owner of the La Reyna Haberdashery in Santiago, and Rosa Martina Jiménez Hernández, director of the Nubeluz School in La Vega.
In the Medium-Sized Business category, the following were recognized: Dewi Rachelle Peña Troncoso, creator and manager of the hair products, Deya by Dewi Peña, and Kalys Bienvenida Bautista, founder and president of Kaba Consulting, an insurance brokerage firm.
The honorable mention was awarded to Mercedes Canalda de Beras-Goico, executive president of Banco de Ahorro y Crédito (ADOPEM), a Dominican leader in the field of microfinance and financial inclusion.
Steven Puig, president of Banco BHD, stated, “The leadership and strong values of these women serve as an example for other businesswomen committed to the growth of their projects. The BHD Business Women Recognition is an initiative through which we recognize the achievements of our leading clients in small and medium-sized enterprises.”.
The cash prize was RD$500,000.00 for each winner. In addition, they received a plaque of recognition, mentorship from BHD experts, and potential strategic alliances with business support institutions.
Josefina González, Executive Vice President of Personal and Business Banking at Banco BHD, explained that "each award recipient has a story of overcoming adversity, a remarkable career, and, above all, makes a significant social, educational, and economic contribution to their communities. We want to continue being that helping hand that applauds, motivates, and inspires them.".
During the recognition ceremony, the organization held a conference on female leadership led by Rosanna Ruiz, executive president of the Association of Multiple Banks of the Dominican Republic.
