SANTO DOMINGO. - The Women of Steel Panel held its second event in Santo Domingo, reaffirming its commitment to highlighting and promoting female leadership in the construction industry, a sector where women are emerging in prominent roles.
Framed within Expo Acero Santiago, to be held in September, the panel brought together prominent professionals and businesswomen from the sector to share their experiences and visions on the future of the industry.
Participating were Marcelle Martínez Bonetti, CEO of Grupo Milomar; Pamela García, CEO of STRUKTURELAB; and Ileana Rojas González, environmental manager of Metaldom.
Marcelle Martínez Bonetti, a promoter of sustainable spaces and designer of Ciudad Juan Bosch, asserted that when a space is made dignified and habitable, people will never want to leave. "This type of social construction is what we must encourage to achieve more resilient and engaged cities," stated Martínez Bonetti, who also recommended "domesticating sustainability" so that it becomes a daily practice, both professionally and personally.
The panel was moderated by business consultant Grisbel Medina, and neuropsychologist Gloria María Morel also participated, speaking about empowerment from the perspective of mental health and well-being.
Heliana Medina, co-founder of the Dominican Institute of Metal Structure Construction (IDCEM) and manager of the Women of Steel space, highlighted the transformative role of women in the industry: “Today we celebrate the advancement of women who occupy strategic positions, lead high-impact projects and set the course for innovation and sustainability in the region.”.
The event also included the participation of Gloria Reyes, director of the Supérate Social Development Directorate, who reaffirmed her commitment to the comprehensive development of Dominican women in all areas, including traditionally male-dominated technical and industrial sectors.
