This is what modern kitchens will look like in 2025

In many homes, even as the years go by and times change, the kitchen remains the epicenter of family and social life. With 2025 approaching, it seems things aren't going to change much, and interior design will continue to focus on kitchens with soul—more functional, technological, and sustainable— but also on spaces for living together, relaxing, and experiencing design at its finest.

Almudena and Cristina, from the interior design studio Rebuelta Domecq , have shared with the magazine https://www.revistainteriores.es/ the five essential keys that, from their point of view, will mark the design of modern kitchens in the coming years.

1. Meticulous selection of finishes

Almudena and Cristina emphasize that finishes will be the heart of modern kitchens. “When designing a kitchen, people are no longer just looking for durability, but also for materials that provide a warm and sophisticated aesthetic,” they say. Materials such as marble, solid wood, stainless steel, and premium ceramic are positioned as favorites for 2025.

The key lies in integrating natural textures and neutral tones that harmonize with the rest of the home, achieving a balance between functionality and design. These finishes transform the kitchen into a welcoming and elegant space, not just for cooking, but a place you'll want to spend time.

2. Sustainability and technology

Sustainability is not just a trend, but a necessity in contemporary design. “The use of smart and efficient appliances , along with recyclable or low-environmental-impact materials, is essential,” the interior designers explain.

From faucets that optimize water usage to integrated recycling systems, the kitchen of the future will be a model of energy efficiency. Furthermore, the furniture is designed to facilitate these processes, integrating advanced appliances that, in addition to being functional, reduce environmental impact.

3. Islands as a central point

Kitchen islands will continue to be popular in 2025, but with a renewed focus. According to the Rebuelta Domecq sisters, “the island not only serves a functional purpose, but also becomes a meeting place, a workspace, or even a corner to enjoy the company of family or friends.”

These islands will be larger and more versatile , incorporating features such as electrical outlets, storage areas, and durable surfaces that allow for multifunctional use. Furthermore, their design will pay attention to every detail, making them a visual focal point in the kitchen.

4. Surround lighting

Lighting will be another key element in modern kitchens. “These days, a kitchen must have lighting that combines functionality and design,” explain Almudena and Cristina.

The incorporation of recessed lighting in furniture and designer lamps will be essential for creating personalized environments. This lighting, in addition to fulfilling its practical function, will allow for the creation of different atmospheres according to needs: from intimate dinners to work sessions or family gatherings.

5. Customizable spaces

Personalization will make all the difference in kitchen design in 2025. “The furniture, as well as the storage options, are being adapted more and more meticulously to the specific needs of each individual,” say the interior designers.

From modular cabinets hidden storage systems , the ability to configure the kitchen according to individual preferences will be a must. This flexibility not only increases functionality but also allows each user to express their personal style.

In addition to the key points highlighted by interior designers Almudena and Cristina, it is important to mention other kitchen trends that we have seen gain popularity in 2024 and that will continue to be strong in 2025.

Among these trends, a growing interest stands out in kitchens  clad entirely in wood , from the cabinets to the walls—a style that achieves a unique warmth and an organic touch in harmony with nature. The rustic style has also gained ground, reviving traditional elements such as exposed beams, stone floors, and robust countertops, and blending them with modern touches to create kitchens full of personality.

Finally, kitchens that feature stainless steel will continue to be fashionable, as they are easier to maintain and clean. All these 2024 trends are still relevant , so keep them in mind if you're planning a kitchen renovation.
